Why See a Chiropractor?
When most people talk about chiropractic care, they often don’t know exactly what happens during a chiropractic appointment. There can be a misunderstanding about why people would visit a family chiropractor. The most common misconception is that chiropractors specifically exist to treat pain. Whether a person has recently had a fall or has been in a vehicle collision, family chiropractors are able to help. And this is true, but chiropractors can also do much more than simply treat pain! In order to get an understanding about how chiropractic treatment works, the body’s spine must first be understood. A person’s spine is a series of bones that are set up specifically to house and protect the spinal cord. Like a superhighway the spinal cord connects the signals coming from the brain to each and every part of the body. The vertebrate that make up the spine can misalign from injury, misuse of the body, age, or anatomy. Though this is not typically life-threatening, it does create pressure on the spinal cord. This reduces the signal strength comin to and from the brain. This is where West Edmonton Chiropractors comes in!

Chiropractic Treatment- What is it?
The first visit to see a chiropractor is an overall health and wellness evaluation. Learning about health history is important. Your west Edmonton chiropractic doctor will likely request previous health information. If you have been in a car accident or suffered any falls in the past, it’s important for your treatment? Experiencing pain now? Or have you ever had pain in the past? Do you ever experience numbness or tingling or any other health conditions? Chiropractors often use x-ray or scans to provide a visual of the spine and its condition. After your issues have been diagnosed, a treatment strategy is created to address these findings. Treatment’s can vary depending on your body’s needs. Your chiropractic Dr. will perform manual manipulations and also educate clients on stretches that can help the body respond to the treatment. It may also be recommended to book a massage appointment. Massage therapy though not a replacement for adjustments, they do assist the body in releasing tight muscles and allow for a better chiropractic treatment.
Adjustments to the spine increase the brain’s ability to “speak” to all parts within the body, completely and without interference!
Subluxations & Adjustments
What is a subluxation? Subluxation is the altered position of the spine’s vertebrae and the loss of function from it. Normally subluxations won’t self-correct and are something that a medical doctor will not evaluate. Subluxations can only be diagnosed and treated by a professional licensed chiropractic doctor. It’s your chiropractor’s specialty to identify and treat subluxations through adjustments. The adjustment is the physical and direct movement of the bone to restore the bone back into its correct place. Although this might sound painful, it is not. Sometimes new chiropractic clients are nervous of the spinal manipulations because of the “pop” sound it makes. This sound is caused by gas being released from between the joints. And not that of bones being ground together.
